Newly Published U.S. Military Research Demonstrates that Hemp
Foods Don't Contain Significant Amounts of the Drug THC
As part of an initiative to examine the legitimacy of legal arguments by military personnel that fail marijuana drug tests but claim they encountered intoxicating Tetra Hydrocannabinol (THC) via the legal ingestion of hemp products, the U.S. military directed laboratory testing of a wide variety of hemp food and cosmetic products. The findings of the new research, published in the July/August 2008 Journal of Analytical Toxicology, indicate that not only do hemp products in the marketplace not contain THC at levels that would cause intoxication or failed drug tests, the vast majority of the tests did not detect any THC at all.
While this new data will help government prosecutors in court prove that the
defendants obtained THC from marijuana and not hemp, it confounds a decades-long government initiative to prevent commerce of hemp products, and to ban hemp agriculture in the U.S. under the misguided "drug-war" campaign that tried to construe hemp as the same as marijuana. Read more...

Chinese Hemp Noodles
Yield: 4 servings
This was 1 or 2 of my winning recipes in the Sept + Oct issue of VegNews Magazine!!
With noodles originally coming from China, I wanted to create a recipe with oriental flavors and noodles. This easy recipe has turned out to be one of our Raw Vegan favorites at home. And, it's great to take to family and friend get-togethers as your dish to pass.
Sauce:
3 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons Manitoba Harvest hemp oil
2 tablespoons organic, vegan red wine (or more!)
2 tablespoons miso
2 tablespoons Raw agave nectar
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
2 teaspoons tamari, wheat-free
1/4 cup Manitoba Harvest hemp seeds
Noodles Blend:
4-5 zucchini, peeled and spiralized into noodles*
1-2 red bell peppers, stemmed, seeded and minced
Place the noodles and the minced bell pepper(s) in a large bowl and toss. Blend all of the sauce ingredients together, except for the hemp seeds. Pour the sauce into a glass mason jar and stir in the hemp seeds. Just before serving, pour about 1/2 cup of the sauce over the noodles blend and toss to mix. Add more sauce if desired. Store any left over sauce in a glass mason jar and use as a dip for veggies or dressing for salad.
* If you don't have a spiralizer or turning slicer, then use a vegetable peeler and make fettuccinni-style noodles.
Variation:
· Add 1/2 cup chopped cilantro or parsley to the noodles blend
· This sauce is scrumptious served as a dressing over chopped Swiss chard and cucumbers

How Hemp Foods helped save my life...
I am forever grateful to the group at Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods and Oils. Before being diagnosed with cancer, I did not realize just how beneficial hemp foods were. Cancer was a wake-up call for me and in my fight for survival and to speed my recovery, I did a lot of research on how I could be a healthier person. I found that so much of our health depends on what we feed our bodies.
My diet has changed dramatically and I have never felt better! I no longer eat processed foods, meat or dairy. I stick to nutritional fuels found in nature including raw fruits, vegetables and grains. Manitoba Harvet's hemp foods and oils are amazingly nutritious and delicious! There are more Omega 3 fatty acids in hemp foods and oils than in salmon! I use the shelled hemp seeds and oil on my salads and Hemp Bliss organic hempmilk in my smoothies daily. I know that doing so helped my healing and will continue to give me the power I need to stay cancer-free. I thank Manitoba Harvest for their support and for providing an environmentally responsible and socially respectful product. It has made a world of difference in my life and in my fight to be healthy!
I encourage everyone to evaluate what you are putting into your bodies. Getting cancer at 30 has been both a challenge and blessing. I have put together valuable resources and a platform to share your experiences. Please visit www.mandagotcancer.com.

Eat Hemp, Lose Weight
By Meghan Atkinson CN
In a time when 65% of adults and 15% of children and adolescents in the US are overweight or obese, American's have become the fattest people on earth, according to the Journal of Clinical Investigation (JCI).
So what went wrong? In addition to the obvious answer that Americans are eating more and exercising less, many studies report other a number of other factors: lack of essential fatty acids; lack of good quality protein (and/or the inability to efficiently break down protein into amino acids); toxins in the body; and an overall lack of certain vitamins, minerals, fiber, and/or phytonutrients.
How does Hemp fit into the current obesity crisis? This incredible, delicious superfood addresses ALL of the factors associated with obesity.
Good Fat: Hemp contains the essential fatty acid Omega-3, Omega-6, and the hard to find GLA and SDA. These fats are a great source of sustained energy, and help to curb food cravings. In addition, Omega-3 fatty acids have been show to increase circulation, which increases metabolic rate, and thus the body burns more calories.
Complete Protein: Hemp contains complete, high quality, easy-to-digest protein that facilitates repair and growth of lean body tissue. This is important during exercise to prevent injury and build lean body tissue. In addition, lean body tissue is more metabolically active than fat, and allows the body to burn more calories.
Cleanses Toxins: The body stores toxins in fat cells so cleansing is critical for effective, long-term weight loss. Hemp contains rich sources of soluble and insoluble fibers, which cleanse the colon and thereby helps to rid the body of toxins. In addition, hemp contains chlorophyll, which mildly cleanses and purifies the blood.
Full Spectrum Nutrition: Often described as "nature's perfect food", aside from the good fats and complete, bioavailable protein, hemp contains fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and more. As a result, when including hemp as a regular part of the diet, the body gets nourished, reducing food cravings and any tendency to overeat.

Team Manitoba |
Manitoba Harvest with Andrew Ference, Boston Bruins
This is Andrew's 9th season in the NHL! He was drafted by Pittsburgh in 1997 and has since played for Pittsburgh, Calgary and now Boston. Andrew has played 472 games in the NHL regular season and another 58 in the playoffs. He has 117 career regular season points and 21 playoff points. He played in the Stanley Cup finals with Calgary in '03-'04 losing in game 7 to Tampa Bay. He is a Team Canada World Junior alumni competing in Winnipeg in 1998, winning silver after losing to Russia
in overtime.

Off the ice Andrew is an athlete ambassador for Right To Play, having travelled with them to Tanzania in the summer of 2007. He is also part of the "350" climate action team which is pushing governments to set hard regulations for 350 parts per million of CO2 in our atmosphere (www.350.org). Andrew started the Carbon Neutral Challenge by teaming up with David Suzuki (!!!) and challenging athletes to offset their travels with "gold standard"carbon offsets. Last season 523 NHL players went carbon neutral under their program. He has also recently become involved with "Goodsport Boston" by donating athletic shoes to disadvantaged youth enabling them to better participate in after school youth sports programs.
And Andrew is not only environmentally conscience but health conscience as
well.
One of our fearless leaders here at Manitoba Harvest, Alex Chaiwaesky, went to Andrew's home to learn more and foster the beginnings of a hemp filled life for Andrew. I think Andrew likes our shelled hemp seeds A LOT. You must see it to believe it...and a message from Andrew..."My favorite way to enjoy my Manitoba Harvest...On my daily bowl of Sambazon Acai, mix 4 packs of Acai, a splash of juice, a cup of raspberries, a scoop of green superfood blend and blend it up to a gelato consistency. Put a 1/2 to a full cup of seeds on top!! At night when I am craving my potato chips... be strong man!! And resist, grab some yogurt instead and throw some seeds right in there, add a little peanut butter granola if you want to get crazy!! Or if you are my 3 year old daughter, just grab a spoon and dig right in for straight seeds!"
