It always seems like midterms are right around the corner, and before you’ve even caught your breath it’s already finals week. What gives?! It’s almost as if our professors want to test our knowledge to make sure we’re actually learning things. Rude.
During exams, it’s more important than ever to practice positive, uplifting self-care to help carry you through the week successfully. Here are five ways to take care of yourself when it’s exam time so you can feel focused and confident! Spoiler: we’re big fans of using Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract with CBD to promote calm and reduce stress!
GET PLENTY OF (GOOD) SLEEP
All your classes are demanding a lot more of your time right now, so sleep may seem like an unattainable luxury. But that’s all the more reason it’s important to build a healthy sleep schedule into exams week. Although it may feel like you don’t have a solid 8 hours to spare in your studying schedule, a solid night of sleep will vastly improve the quality of your studying time.
According to the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School, memory consolidation – the process by which what you’ve learned becomes stable – takes place while we’re sleeping and our neural connections are strengthening. Likewise, a lack of sleep can have a big impact on learning and performance – “without adequate sleep and rest, over-worked neurons can no longer function to coordinate information properly, and we lose our ability to access previously learned information.”
Adding Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract with CBD to your daily routine can help promote a healthy sleep cycle that’s so crucial to retaining what you’re learning. CBD can help reduce day-to-day stress and can act as a receptor for serotonin in our bodies – all things that can help you get a deeper, better quality night of sleep. Try adding a couple softgels to your nightly routine or a dropper of CBD oil under your tongue before bed!
Sure, covering your desk in candy bars, bags of chips, and a 24 pack of soda seems like what you’re supposed to do to power through a study sesh. But your body and your brain won’t be very happy about that. Proper nutrients helps your brain function effectively, and reduces the slog your body feels from eating all junk all the time. You’ll be more alert, you’ll sleep better (yay sleep!) and you’ll walk into your exam feeling 100%.
Keep a supply of Manitoba Harvest Hemp Yeah! bars (10g of Plant Protein and 6g of Omegas 3 and 6 in every bar – that’s proper food fuel!) in your bag to keep you going throughout the day!
Organic Chemistry got you feeling frazzled? All of Shakespeare’s sonnets starting to get all jumbled in your head? Stand up, go out, and get a good sweat session in! You’ll notice a trend in our advice: don’t skip your usual routines. Be they sleep, or eating, or exercise. Give your brain a break with a brisk walk or a hardcore gym workout – continuing your normal physical activity, or introducing new activities during exams week, is an excellent form of stress relief.
We recommend fueling your workout energy needs with Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract Plant Protein Blend: mix a couple scoops of our plant protein with 12 ounces of your favorite non-dairy milk. Each serving delivers 15 mg CBD, 20g plant protein, 3g fiber, and 2g Omegas 3 and 6 – it’s a nutrition powerhouse punch to boost your energy and help your body recover after physical activity.
PRACTICE MINDFULNESS AND MEDITATION
Your mind is going to be a big mess of information this week: mindfulness and meditation techniques are great stress relievers and give your brain a chance to refocus and recharge. Start your day with some Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract with CBD to promote a wakeful calm, then support those intentions with a short meditation exercise. You may find that your ability recall last night’s studies improves when you give your mind a chance to focus.

PRIORITIZE DAILY SELF-CARE – EVEN AFTER EXAMS ARE OVER
Obviously it’s much better in the long run for you to take your car in to the shop regularly to get the oil changed and perform inspections. You save yourself the hassle of a potential break down disaster down the (literal) road. Such is the case with your body and mind, too!
It may seem like your #1 only job right now is to study study study, and therefore this is the most obvious time to practice self-care. But the next exams week is coming up before you know it – do yourself the favor of maintaining these good habits, these little tokens of love from you to you, all year round. You deserve to breathe deep, feel confident, soak in a bath, read a book, or get a refreshing outdoor walk in every day of the week.
Taking care of your whole self – body, mind, emotions – should be a year-round habit. Because you deserve to love the way you feel!
