It’s hard to find anyone more passionate about whole-person health and wellness than Jon Aleman. A Chicago-based certified Yoga Instructor and Health Coach, Jon works to empower others to live with happiness and balance through mindful movement, nutrition and exercise.
We sat down with Jon to get his thoughts on wellbeing and hear more about how he has incorporated Manitoba Harvest Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract with CBD into his own wellness rituals, as well as his work with his clients.
You describe yourself as having a whole-person approach as a Health Coach. What does that look like?
My day-to-day focus is on asking whether I’m leaving someone better off than they were yesterday, or even just a minute ago. I ask whether I’ve been able to switch their lens or perspective — where they might have come in feeling hurt, or in pain, I try to shift their focus back to one of love. Then we can open up and have inspired conversations on vulnerability and uncover the truth. I’m after the truth in everything.
In addition to your work with clients in Chicago, you also lead a number of yoga-based wellness events in cities around the country. What other tools are you using to bring balance and wellness to people?
I’ve worked with a team to create a wellness app called hiitide. It’s basically an outlet for sharing your goals. A lot of clients I work with describe doing a lot of things for other people, but they’re lacking a sense of what they’re giving themselves. And when I ask them what they want for themselves, they’re often unsure. So we boil it down: long-term goals, as well as short-term goals for their fitness and wellness.
So it’s about more than tracking steps per day?
It’s an accountability platform to help people put a plan in action. If you’re doing certain things every day, you’re on the path to your accomplishments by focusing on adherence. And it’s a long road to an enjoyable goal, so it’s important that you’re also able to take joy in the everyday.
That’s the kind of balance so many people are looking for today. How do you see CBD products fitting into that broader picture of joyful wellbeing?
Manitoba Harvest Broad Spectrum Health Extract with CBD came across my radar this past spring. After trying it for the first time, I noticed right away that it got me feeling very calm. It brought a greater awareness to my body movements. In my meditation practice, I was able to breathe more deeply. I felt that it added a layer of calmness and relaxation. It really came at a perfect time for me.
Do you incorporate CBD into your daily wellness routine?
I like to take some Manitoba Harvest CBD Oil Drops right under my tongue, about an hour before my evening meditation or yoga practice.
In your work with your clients, you’ve given each month of the year its own theme. Can you give us an example?
Well, February was Heart Health month. That’s one of the reasons I love Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts — because the heart muscle has to be strengthened in terms of both nourishment and physical activity. When I was two years old, I had open-heart surgery to repair a hole in my heart, so one of my long-term goals is to be someone known as an educator on heart health. Hemp seeds are just perfectly aligned with that, with all those good fats and Omega-3s.
You place such an emphasis on self-care — and mindfulness is a big part of that, right?
Yes! May of this year was designated Meditation Month for that very reason! I’ve expanded on my yoga practice by meditating 30 minutes a day. I’ve created this very comfortable meditation studio — it’s very chill. And this, again, is where I really appreciate the Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract with CBD. I love the feeling of accomplishment from meditating, and the CBD adds this really complimentary layer of calmness and muscle relaxation.
A sense of balance, then?
I just feel at peace with the CBD. I feel the peace in the beat of my heart, and feel so relaxed in my shoulders. I feel a sense of calm.
How does Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract with CBD fit into your coaching work with your clients?
I recommend products based on what people are telling me. If someone is seeking a holistic way of treating anything, I remind them that food is medicine. I ask them what they are feeding their bodies with, then we start to make some additions — it’s a practice built on inclusion rather than restriction. People are empowered with fruits, vegetables, everyday fiber. Then we can touch on things like CBD for addressing any stressors, or simply to help someone tune into themselves. I always really encourage that.
It looks like you have a lot of events coming up in different cities. How does it feel to be expanding your message around health and wellness to a broader audience?
For a long time my coaching and training work was so immersive I really failed to reach out by having a website or social media. I built my practice on human connection, one-on-one. The journey now is taking that experience and bringing it to more and more people across the country. I want them to be able to communicate and inspire one another, to connect and motivate.
Ultimately, I want to help people find the fastest path to the truth. That’s what I’m saying.
