What's the difference between CBD oil and Hemp oil?

CBD oil is a supplement containing cannabidiol (CBD) extracted from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant that interacts with the body’s internal system that regulates balance and overall homeostasis.

Hemp oil, on the other hand, is a versatile oil extracted from hemp seeds and used for drizzling and cooking. Although they both come from the same plant, CBD oil and hemp oil are two totally unique products with different uses and benefits.

Manitoba Harvest has been in the hemp business for over 20 years – we live, sleep, and breathe hemp. As the leading hemp foods company in the world, we could talk your ears off about the power of hemp.

Given the seemingly endless ingredients you can derive from the Wide World of Hemp, we wanted to clear up some confusion around two related – but very different – hemp-based products: CBD oil and Hemp oil. How could these two different oils present themselves in your daily life?

Extracted from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant, cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of the many beneficial chemical compounds found in hemp plants that promote overall wellness and healthy balance. CBD interacts with the human endocannabinoid system, which helps modulate energy and maintain balance in the face of day-to-day stress.

Oil tinctures and oil sprays are a great way to enjoy the benefits of CBD in customizable servings. Manitoba Harvest uses Organic Coconut MCT Oil as its CBD oil base for maximum stability; it’s super easy to add to any food or beverage of your choice (morning coffee! Baked goods! Fruit smoothie!) or enjoy under your tongue for 30 seconds on its own.

With Manitoba Harvest’s Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract oils, softgels, and protein powder, you aren’t just getting CBD; a serving size contains 10mg of CBD along with other cannabinoids and terpenes – all these molecules work together (it’s called the “entourage effect”!). All these phytocompounds’ talents and properties work together and enhance each other.

Hemp Oil

For hemp oil, we must explore a different part of the hemp plant: the seeds. There’s no CBD content in hemp seeds; what they produce instead, through a cold-pressed extraction process, is a carrier oil (similar to sunflower seed oil and jojoba oil) that’s high in essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6.

This versatile superfood is a healthy plant-based substitute for other oils in low-heat recipes (below 300 °F). You can add it to salad dressings and sauces or drizzle it on veggies/popcorn/pasta/whatever could use a light, nutty kick of flavor.

Pretty different, right? So to sum up:

CBD Oil: Has cannabidiol (CBD), a chemical compound that can help maintain balance. Great to enjoy by itself or added to food or beverage as part of your daily wellness routine. In Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract, CBD works together with other hemp plant compounds, enhancing their wellness properties.

Hemp oil: Does not contain CBD. Hemp oil is a versatile, plant-based superfood that makes a great addition to salads, sauces, veggies, whatever! Hemp oil is high in essential fatty acids and has a light, nutty flavor.

(Does that mean you could use hemp oil and CBD oil together? SURE! Good thinking! Very innovative of you! You could add both to a shake or a veggie dip!)
